Child Dedication

A Promise to Raise Children in Faith. A Commitment Made Before God and the Church.

Child dedication is a special time for parents to thank God for the gift of their child and publicly commit to raising them in a Christ-centered home. It also gives the church family an opportunity to promise their prayer, encouragement, and support.

Child Dedication Is . . .

  • A public commitment by parents to raise their child to know and follow Jesus.
  • An expression of gratitude to God for the gift of a child.
  • A promise to teach God’s Word and model a life of faith.
  • An invitation for the church family to support and pray for the child.
  • A meaningful celebration of family, faith, and God’s grace.

Child Dedication Is Not . . .

  • Baptism or salvation for the child.
  • A guarantee that the child will one day follow Christ.
  • A substitute for the child’s own personal decision to trust Jesus.
  • A promise that parents will be perfect, but a commitment to lead with faith and love.

Why Dedicate a Child

  • To recognize that every child is a gift from God.
  • To follow the biblical example of presenting children to the Lord.
  • To commit to raising children according to God’s Word.
  • To ask for God’s wisdom, strength, and guidance as parents.

Who Should Participate

  • Parents or guardians who desire to raise their child in a Christian home.
  • Families who are committed to teaching their child about Jesus.
  • Parents who are willing to model faith through prayer, worship, and daily life.
  • Families who want the support and encouragement of the church community.
